would be safe or is there an amperage limit that shouldn't be exceeded.

  1. If you plugged a 9V, 500mA device into a 9V 320A source you would be ok. You would draw .5A .

I plug in a .5A 120VAC device (radio)  into a 20A 120 Vac supply (plug). It works just fine.  Yu may have a 320 A DC supply someware, who knows. But in answer to YOUR question no problem.

Problems arise when you mismatch voltage or draw more current than you have available.

  2. 500mA to 320A is kinda crazy I wouldn't, but if it were 500mA and 320mA It most likely wont cause a problem.

  3. It's hard to understand this question.

An appliance is a device tat uses electricity.  Perhaps you are speaking of a power supply.  If it is rated 9 volts at 500 ma, it will put out at least 9 volts on a load up to 500 ma.  If you put on a load that requires 9 volts at 320 amp, the power supply will be overloaded.  If it is not overload protected, it will overheat, and maybe destroy itself.

If you have a load of 320 ma, the power supply will operate satisfactorily, probably at a voltage a bit higher than 9 volts.

  4. NO! i doubt you have 320 amp supply, and if you do, dont plug a 500mA device in to it. the supply will just hum untill it overheats. if you have a 320 ma supply your device will pull around 750 mA, damage the device and overheat the supply. a 9v 500mA is easy to find. you want a supply that delivers 500mA to 850mA. if you use any supply over 1A the the combo of device and supply will consume more power than either one can handle. it is hard to explain but the reason why you need to keep it between 500mA and 850mA is due to the "maximum power transfer theorem".

  5. 320amps is an enormous amount of current, and I don't know of any appliance that uses 320amps (even cars, as far as I know, use less than that...or else they'd get 1mpg =D). If your appliance is rated 9v 500mA, then plugging it into whatever power supply delivers 9v and 320A would be fine.

  6. You really have to check your typing before you submit the question.

I doubt you have something that draws 320 amps. That's more than an auto starter takes.

Also, appliances are not power supplies, you seem to have the two confused.

But a load of 320 ma will not harm a supply rated at 500 ma.

Perhaps you should retype your question?
