  1. Yes, but you could not get interactive services such as on demand.


  2. the digital stream boxes i have seen only convert over-air ATSC type DTV. most cable systems use an entirely different modulation scheme for their version of digital TV. however the DS box can be set to "cable" channels and if you are on one of the 5% or so systems relaying ATSC as broadcast, then it will work.
