If i have huge credit card debt and am ssi and own no property can the cc companies do anything to me?

  1. If your only asset is your social security, it is protected by federal law from all creditors.  If you own your house or have a car or have other assets, then a creditor can try to attach them, assuming that they have a court judgment.


  2. The worst thing they can do is sue and receive judgment against you.  The judgment doesn't look good on your credit and can remain on your credit report for a very long time.

    Other than that, not much. SSI, like other Social Security benefits are protected by law from garnishment for credit card debt.  And there's no point in filing a lein if you don't own any property.

NOPE! not a thing. h**l, even if you work and don't pay them, there is no debtors jail in the USA and you, being on SSI - they can't touch your check. it will show on your credit report as not paid, but that's it. if you aren't going to buy a car, or a house, or something that needs financing, you are cool.

  4. No,there is nothing that can be done.Since you have nothing how can they take anything?Your SSI is safe.They absolutely cannot touch that.
