  1. some fruit, yes, also jelly babies, a few of those or jelly beans


  2. just what do you think calories are?  in order to raise your blood glucose level, you have to ingest calories.  if your blood sugar is truly low, then sugars will quickly raise your levels, but will also sharply drop off once metabolized.

    you need a quick raise (glucose tablet, gatorade) followed by something that is harder to metabolize (proteins, etc) like nuts cheese, meat.

    Fat you can do without and still raise your levels; calories are unavoidable

You need to be eating about 6 small meals each day that contain good carbs.  Stay away from sugary things, this will just take your blood sugar level up and then let it drop quickley.  Carbs will raise your blood sugar and keep it stable for a longer period of time.  Eat snacks several times a day  that contain good carbs, like granola bars, or peanut butter crackers, nuts, anything that is good carbs.  This will keep your body from having the lows during the day.  I was hypoglycemic most of my life until I developed diabetes.  My husband also has low blood sugar, and I have to be certain that he has food when he should, and make sure it has the right carbs.  You will feel better as soon as you eat.

  4. Skim milk would raise your levels at a good steady pace rather than jack you up too high or quickly like fruit juice would. I usually feel better in about 15 minutes but later feel tired. Hope this Helps.

  5. The suggestion the doctor gave us was 1 tbls of sugar in a glass of milk.  Hardly a calorie free solution but you should be more worried about you low blood sugar then anything else...  You can still count your calories easy enough...
