  1. please do not remove ur service pack 2 keep as it is and install service pack 3.

  2. you should be using sp3

    no you dont uninstall 2.

  3. Yes, you will need the latest version of the Service Pack which is three for you to have the latest update on the XP's security fixes and drivers.

  4. You want 3. Just do a windows update and it will download and install what you need You just have to restart the computer. don't uninstall 2 though

  5. Right now SP2 is fine if it is up to date. SP3 is just all the updates from SP2. If you were fully update to date with SP2 you shouldn't have any problems downloading SP3.

I downloaded it on my 2 pc's and did not have any problmes, I have XP pro , XP home , and had no problems.

But some people have. had problems here is a good site listing some of their problems.

  6. No you don't remove sp2 just install sp3

  7. You can't install SP3 until you have SP2,  they build on each other.

Service pack is just a bundle of updates for windows.  usually you get most of these updates over the course of a year,  after so many have been released Microsoft just starts shipping a version of windows that includes all these updates.  They do add some tweaks,  but its mostly to make sure people are on the same version (are you on SP2 or SP3) kind of thing,
