  1. It's not how far in miles you run or walk, it's how long you keep your heart rate up.

    A really good, fast walk for 3 miles lasting half an hour burns as much as a slow jog for 3 miles lasting 15 mins but the walking will cause much less strain on your joints and be less likely to result in injury.

    Injuries can lead to loss of ability to exercise which is why it is much better to walk briskly knowing that you're not going to hurt yourself and will be able to continue exercising indefinitely rather than run which may lead to injury and therefore not able to exercise at all.

  2. Jogging for 3 miles would burn more calories because you body needs more energy to jog than it does to walk. Hence why when you jog for a certain distance you pulse/heart rate is higher than when you have walked that distance
