  1. Its not the meds that he needs, its the IV fluids. There is NO WAY no matter what you do, that you will be able to keep your puppy hydrated if he has parvo.

Sorry. I've nurse too many puppys thru it, and too many dont make it even in an ICU ward at a vet hospital.

    Should have got him vaccinated.

  2. parvo is nothing to mess around with, you shouldn't own a dog if you can't afford to care for it

  3. You should have thought of all expenses involving pet ownership before you got one.  I would get him to a vet asap see if you can borrow some money.  Rather than have the poor thing suffer, or at least call a vet and see if you can get some advice,

  4. Let me give you the statistics:

Treated by a vet: 80% of dogs live

Treated at home: 80% of dogs die.

Long story short, the dog needs to see a vet.

  5. your puppy will not survive it is a desease that just keeps weaking the immune system.the treatment you are talking about is after the vet has given him his initial antibotic vaccine to help kill the virus then you continue at home by keeping him hydrated, still the chances for survival is only a 10-20%.please seek medical help.whether he survives or not if you ever decide on getting another pup,you must thoroughly disenfect your whole house and yard the virus is so stubborn to get rid of that it can survive on your premises for a whole year and will infect any dog coming into your house.

  6. Sorry, but without vet treatment your dog doesnt have much of a chance. Even with vet treatment not all dogs will be able to survive parvo.

The problem is when your dog is sick he may not even be able to eat and drink, so keeping him fed and hydrated isnt always an option- he may need to be fed and watered through a drip, which you will not have access to at home.

He will also need medication like antibiotics. Parvo is spread very easily, so you will need to make sure that any other dogs you have are vaccinated, and I would chat to my neighbours and warn them as well, just in case.

You really shouldnt have had a puppy if you cant afford vet trips- vet trips are expensive but essential for your dog to have a happy, healthy life. If he had have been to the vet in the first place to have his shots you wouldnt be in this problem.

There are vets out there that will let you sort out a payment plan, or may allow you to open an account so you can pay them back when you can.

  7. I have worked in vet clinics as a tech caring for parvo pups, and have also cared for my own puppies at home that had parvo. Guess what?... in my experience taking them to the vet is only more expensive. I have cured puppies with parvo with herbs, nutrical and LOTS of fluids. Pedialyte and enemas. It takes ALOT of work u will be up every half hour treating the puppy but it can be done. I've done it I know.  If u are very dedicated you can do it.

I know how tough and hard this can be, its horrible to see your puppy suffer, if u have any questions, message me, i've totally dealt with this.

  8. I was a vet nurse for a long time and puppies coming in with Provo is serious! If they do not have proper care including drugs and drip, 90% that die, die a horrible death, Having a pet is a luxury not a necessity.

  9. It really depends on how severe the parvo is at this point. He absolutely needs antibiotics he will not get any better with out them. I have seen puppies that have lived with at home care but they had a very mild cases. If you can not afford to treat the puppy and it is very sick I would encourage  you to turn it over to a rescue group or some other organization that would take it and treat it. You will no longer have the puppy but at least it will be alive this way.
