  1. I. too, have contemplated this very question numerous times, and have come to a rather strange conclusion according to the current theories, but I like my theory better - it's as simple as that.

To illustrate my point, imagine there is a being named Trillian (No!  Not THAT Trillian; she would have to get paid royalties!  This is another Trillian!)  Well,  if Trillian physically leaves her point of physical existence right here on earth and travels at ANY rate of speed for any length of time and in a straight line (of course avoiding any physical structures like planets, stars, ET, or any other number of physical objects which would smash her beautiful bod to bits and ruin an otherwise enjoyable trip to the end of existence) YET MAINTAINING THAT SAME DIRECTION when all is said and done, HER TRIP WOULD GO ON INFINITELY, wouldn't it?  There would be no wall, barrier, or anything else to put an end to her travels because ON THE OTHER SIDE there would still be what we term "space", wouldn't there?.   If one thinks about it, even "space" itself is a part of "our" universe, isn't it?  And where does it end?  Hm...It never, ever does...  Consequently, to answer your question we can never go completely "out" of our universe, because it never ends.  Think about it.

  2. To our knowledge, the universe has no edge, nor even a center. If you like (I'm not being a wisecracker), you could call yourself the center of the universe. Years ago when I was a kid, I would sometimes think about such things. My friend said maybe this universe is being staged by God like a puppet show and all of us have strings attached. Believe me, I'm beyond that now!

  3. No, the universe is just too big to ever be able to get out of it. If you were able to get out, you would just enter in another one. Which are parallel universes!

  4. you could travel out of the universe

  5. No. It is just like how you could just keep walking (or swimming or even flying, as long as you stayed in the atmosphere) and never go out of the world.

  6. No, but it is theoretically possible to escape the universe. You need an escape velocity of 2.7379 billion times of light speed. Yeah.

  7. It's not posible to leave the universe because:

    (a) it expands faster than you can travel

    (b) there are no edges

as the person above said, we could live in a spherical universe where you end up where you began. We could also live in a flat, infinite universe, or even a hyperbolic universe which is mathematically insane (but scientifically a possibility).

There is a number called the curvature. If this is 0 we have a flat universe, if it's less than 0 we have a hyperbolic universe and if it's above 0 we have spherical. Current scientific values of this curvature is 0.00 +/- 0.01. So within the experimental error, it could be any of the three. This means that if it is curved, it's only curved very slightly.

  8. No.  If you kept traveling in one direction through space faster then the expansion of the universe then you would eventually end up where you started again.  This is because the universe is the shape of a topological 3-sphere, which humans can't really conceptually perceive.  Also the universe is everything, there is nothing outside it.
