  1. Private dirt road that the state or the city never maintains for you ????

If so you just put them on the road if you want but remember that if done incorrectly or even if done correctly you as the small 20 family area will be responsible for any and all so-called accidents that might result from them.......

  2. Why in the world would you decide to install speed bumps on a dirt road when driving on it is already bumpy enough?

  3. First off, you should talk to your council and ask exactly what the road is classed as.

Lots of private roads were put in by the council, so they own them. If this is the case, get signatures of everyone in the street and put it to council. They may put the speed humps in for free, or  you may need to pay for them

If it is a private road that you and the other 19 residents paid for to be put in, then you shouldnt have too many problems. I would get a lawyer to draw up papers for all the residents to sign, agreeing for everyone to pay 1/20th the cost of the bill. As long as everyone wants them, it should be plain sailing. You may be required by law to put up signs saying speedbump ahead, as well as signs stating that it is a private access road as well.

  4. Speed bumps on a dirt road, really, never heard of that before!

  5. check you local ordinances, but if the road is truly a private road, you can do what you want. but that means that the state or county does not maintain the road, and has no responsibility for maintaining the road.

  6. One of the things that you should think about before you put down speed bumps is the the medical condition of the family members using the road.  Speed bumps can really have a negative impact on the ability of emergency response personnel in the performance of their duties.  Negotiating road obstacles while trying to run an IV could cause a patient his life.

There are probably better ways to address speeders on private drives.

  7. Just take turns to lie across the road. Tell people you dont like to take first shift.
