  1. It is thought that a personis genetically predisposed to autsim-

just like you can be predisposed to diabetes, heart disease, cancer-

it's like there is a weak gene-but there needs to be some external factor to cause teh disease-

There have been reports of parents with autsim-

I beleive there is an increased chance of autism in the child-but not necessarily--

just as there is an increased risk of diabetes, heart disease, cancer if teh parent has those diseases

Bill Gates is on the autism spectrum-he has 3 children-I have not heard of any of them having autism...

  3. I would say it is a possibility since I tend to see it run in families, however there is no current data or proof to support it being hereditary or environmental.  The truth is, there is A LOT  that isn't known about the causes of Autism.  I will just say that I work with Autistic Children and I have seen families have 3 children with an Autism Diagnosis.  I think that is a pretty powerful indicator that there is something genetic about it, but it has not been proven.

  4. Autism is at the moment thought not to be genetic, so cannot be passed down through generations, but very little is known about it and there is still alot of research ongoing.

  5. Autism does have a genetic link to those with a family history, that is they have one or more family members with a condition in the autism spectrum.

But as for an actual genetic fault in the genes, has yet to be found or proven. Although I believe they are close to finding a genetic link.

There are currently many scientist/geneticists who are trying to identify the etiology (cause) of autism, some looking for genetic faults in the gene, others looking at the role of the environment, which include; drugs/alcohol, chemicals, heavy metals, vaccinations e.g. MMR etc, which may have a contributing factor to families with a predisposition of autism (that is families who family member on the autism spectrum). Current thinking from geneticist's is that there is no one cause to autism, but possibly many contributing factors.

So I guess the only way of knowing, is to peak to your doctor, or speak with a geneticist, as they'd be better able to answer your question, as they would have access to current  research.

  6. A child cannot become autistic as it is a pervasive development disorder. If you had a child there would most likely be higher risk of the child having autism as current thinking is beginning to think that autism could be hereditary.

  7. Become?

Autism is hereditary if this is what you mean.

Not something to worry about, you love this man/women who is autistic right?

Everyone has something in there genetic makeup....
