If i move my modem to the basement?

will i still be able to pick up a wireless connection ?

We are planning to move out computer room to the basement to make room a newly needed play room. If i move my modem to the basement will my laptop still be able to pick up the connection from upstairs ?

  1. as long as you have a decent router and minimal interference you really shouldn't have any trouble, my router is 75ft and 4 walls away.


  2. You really can't tell until you try it. It also depends on how big your house is. Chances are if your basement looks like any other basement you see that the signal is not going to make it out.

    Like I said though, you can only tell with this once you try it.

    Also, if you do have a fairly decent router, it should reach though. If it is a cheapo thing it won't. Our router is a few years old and it reachers a long ways away, through a couple of walls and halfway across our yard (I just had to try one day). Our yard covers about half an acre (Just an estimate) if you needed to know.

    So yeah, in contrast to the first part of my answer, it probably should reach.

  3. As the other post stated, it would be better to mount it to the ceiling someplace out of the way, central to the house.
