do i just ask my instructor if i can fly for a few hours and then those hours will be added to my records? if i fly for an airline that only requires less hours say about 300 then will those hours with those airlines be added to my record also? and another question, if i need to take a general knowledge test to be a pilot trainee does that mean my general knowledge about flying or gen. education such as mathematics, english, or science?

  1. first you start off as a student pilot, you will need a general knowledge test, a test that will ask questions about charts weather what to do in an emergency ect, you dont really need to worry about math just learn how to calculate specific charts with the formula your instructor teaches you, then after the minumum needed hours which i believe is 50, its been awhile for me, you can go for your oral/ flight test, the oral can be 30 mins to 3hours depending how good you do, then you go up and prove you know what your doing, then you can go for ifr training or move right on to your commercial license, and i wont go into detail but yes to build extra hours you can just rent a plane and fly to wherever, and most airlines want something in the range of 1200 to 1500 hours i believe before they will even consider you, thats for the small charter companies, to build those hours most will become a flight instructer, pays not great at first maybe 10 to 20 dollars an hour but you build up the time you need and looks good on your resume, but if your serious about it, you are also going to need to get your ifr rating and multi engine at the least
