If i order vitamins and supplements from usa, do i have to pay cross border tax?

i will be buying it online from a usa store, value is about 50 USD

  1. Email or contact the store and ask what carrier they use to ship to Canada, and if they mark thier international shipments as "gifts".

    It is very common (not legal...but very very common) for US shippers to use USPS (US Postal Service), and mark the package as a "gift", instead of a "commercial good".

    If marked as a "gift", the package is most likely to get thru CA customs, with no taxes or fees being charged to the recipient.

    If the package is marked as "commercial goods", then it is possible Canada Post will charge you GST and a $5 handling fee when they deliver the package.

    The US shipper usually does not figure or charge the taxes when shipping...they leave it up to the recipient.

    So again, contact the shipper/store and ask which carrier they will use, and if they mark their international shipments as "gifts".
