I want a modern/contemporary theme in my room. I'm going to get a black bed, and maybe black drawers. I was thinking of painting my room red, with a white line through the middle of the wall. But i don't want my room to be too dark. I am going to get better lighting also, but idk if it will change it. Or should i get the opposite? White with a red line?

  1. I would only paint one wall red for a drama look but not all.  Red is a very unsettling color and not usually chosen for a restful bedroom look.  But one wall could work.  Have it be the wall the bed is on.  Your choice of course, but it won't be very relaxing. I would go instead for a soft sage.  Everything you choose for accents will pop against it but the color will create a relaxing atmosphere and still be contemporary.  Use your strong colors for accents.

  2. I've been in both dark red and bright red rooms and both look very nice.

My parents painted their living room a darker red color and it really brightened everything else and made the furniture and details stand out.  It's not dark at all, even with the blinds closed.  The color was about like this http://www.handyman-pro.net/Red-Wall-&-F...

My friend has a bright red room and the color makes the room feel warm and is not dark at all.  If you want to do red with white accents (light switch, white lines, baseboards) it wont feel gloomy at all. Her easilyere about like this http://208.112.103.184/images/modern-zeb...

It's all in the hue you chose.  There are so many different hues of red, you can easilly find one that you like.  Get a quality paint (not from walmart) and talk to the person mixing the colors.  They can help you find the right one for you based on a swatch that you bring in or help you find one.

    Good luck!

  3. you'll regret it.  stick with white walls and use red as an accent color: cushions, rug, bedding.  a red line on the walls is good but will limit future choices if you tire of red.   put the line about 2/3 way from the floor so the eye is drawn upward.  choose a deep, rich red, not fire engine.

  4. It really depends on how much space your room is and how much lighting there is. The more natural light there is, the less dark it will look. Or, if you had floresant lighting, that would be good to. On the other hand, if you had a lot of light coming from you lamp or chandelier, it would change the color of the room. In my room I have a lot of natural light and I tend to not use my lamp a lot than I did in my other house.

  5. Black and white is a classic look and the red strip would add drama.  All red will make it look dark and gloomy.

  6. yes red color 'll be dark but if you have large space i thinks that is can more proporion for your space
