i have just realised today that money has been taken from my account twice, i spoke to the bank an was told that they could do nothing and i was to contact store. later phoned online banking service and was kept on hold for 20 mins, when the lady returned i was told that the money was in holding and had been retracted and put back into my account. my question is is this possible as my friend who works in a bank says not? am i being fobbed off? anyone know?

  1. That's an odd situation to be in.  I think that there is a way for the bank to get back the money, because basically they charged twice for something that they shouldn't have.  Banks have the authority to ask for money back and if they company doesn't do it, than they can get into trouble for it.  As far as the company goes, if you haven't got back your money yet, then I would tell them that unless I get my money back then I'll never shop with them again, and be sure to tell them that you'll tell all your friends and family and anyone who you meet how your were treated.  That usually gets them moving, because they don't like word of mouth when its a bad thing.  Hope this helps, sometimes you have to be a little aggressive to get the job done.

  2. When there is an inquiry on your bank (debit card or ATM card), it automatically put a hold on money  for about $25 (most merchants use bettween $25-$50).  If you transaction amount is $35.  Your bank will see two transactions, first $25 and second $35.  The actual amount $35 was transferred to the merchant.  The first $25 was being hold for about 3-5 days.  The bank will release the $25 back to your account as available fund.  It sounded that your account balance is low.  This also work with available credit line on credit card.
