If i pay state income tax do i still have to pay fed income tax?

the state i live in has an income tax and i want to know if there is any way around paying a second income tax

  1. Sure do . . .some cities even tax you if you work outside their limits ! ! !


  2. First you file your federal taxes. Then you transfer your agi over from your federal to your state. Gotta do fed.

  3. Sorry, no free lunch.  There are a few ways around federal income tax, but none is particularly attractive: quit your job, leave the country, jump off a bridge, ...

  4. No.  You have to pay both.  And if you listen to anyone who tells you otherwise then you're asking for the IRS to come knocking at your door.

    There are several states that don't have "state income tax" but they make up for it by having a higher "sales tax".
