If i practice 1min 400m will i eventually get close to 4min mile?

how can i get there doing 400s???

how long should my break be after each 400???

  1. I suggest running 8 400's at 60 seconds. Each time you do this workout decrease the rest time. maybe 2 minutes inbetween them the first time, then a minute and 30 the second time you do the workout.

    Also you should find some open track meets to run at to keep the competitive edge and to get used to running with aggressive runners.


  2. Well first off you need to train for the mile not the 400. if you run a 1 min 400m then your training for that.  Just go out and run everywhere without trying to do it for speed.  Build endurance first then speed will come.

  3. running repeat 400s at 60 seconds is a part of your training, but not everything.

    You need to do distance, stress, speed, and pace intervals.

    If you can do 6 to 10x 400 at 1 minute with short recovery then you are helping your body learn to race at that pace.

    The number of intervals, the time of each interval, and the rest periods can be adjusted as your conditioning improves.
