we had to write short stories for school, and mine is really embarassing. my brother's laptop's printer is working so i can print it off in his room. but if he reads it, he would make fun of my story endlessly.

anyhow, if i print something off the computer, is the text saved anywhere on the computer? is there like a "recently printed" file or something?? or would i be completely in the clear?

  1. As long as you didn't save the file on your brother's computer, you should be just fine. It doesn't save anything unless you save it onto his computer. Don't worry too much =)

  2. Yes.  Windows' printing function makes it's own file for printing even if you're just plugging in a flash drive or thumb drive.  It's called the "print spooler."  If, and only if, your brother is truly a computer guru, will he be able to find it and read it.  He first has to suspect that it was there.  Or, maybe he's paranoid to the point that he checks for that kind of thing frequently--I don't know.

One must only know the file name algorithm used by the windows spooler and then one must know only how to recover deleted files.

Is your brother a computer science major?  If so, maybe best to print it at the library.

  3. unless the file used to print it is on the computer, then no. The file (if deleted by windows) could still be the recycle bin or technically in RAM if u havnt shut of the computer but besides (nobodies guna look in ur RAM!) that u should be fine!

  4. Nope, nada------  Only if you saved the document.  If you didn't turn the computer off, the document might still be there.

My suggestion, if you don't want to retype it, scan the document.  Make sure the scanner has text recognitions.  Also called OCR.  Then saved the text to a word document.  That will save a lot of time.

  5. Just don't save the file on your brothers computer.. like you can load it up by USB port or just type it on the computer and then print it.. as long as you don't save the file..
