I am looking at buying a nearly new 2008 Chevy Malibu Hybrid in the US for about $6000 cheaper than in Canada. My local Chevy dealer told me that there would be no warranty on the vehicle once it arrives in Canada. Is this true? If so, that's pretty bad of GM.

  1. If local dealer said no I think he will not work on it. I work for Nissan, I know Nissan USA & Nissan Canada will not honor each others warranties. Ditto for Dodge. Was told by canadians that winter here ( in Florida ) , GM was only manufacturer to honor on both sides of the border.

Maybe run it past a few more GM dealers up there?

  2. It could well be what your local dealer is telling you is true.  The warranty is slightly different between US and Canada, and then there is this:

    Eligibility Requirements

ºApplicant must be a legal resident of Canada of age of majority in their province of residence at time of application with a valid Canadian Driver's License. Individuals must meet the eligibility and other offer requirements during the offer period. Limited to institutions in or outside Canada as currently approved or recognized by GMCL. See your dealer/retailer for eligible institutions. As part of the transaction Dealer/Retailer may request eligibility documentation and will contact GM to verify eligibility. Determination of full-time status at discretion of GMCL as determined through supporting documentation.

Is it bad, or is it good business strategy?

  3. Look at the sales terms.

  4. yes it does the warranty goes with the vehicle and the owner no mater where you live at,thy have to honor the warranty on it,good luck.
