If i put a new engine in.... (road tax question)

if i put a new engine (out of a car registered after 2002) into a 1995 car does that mean ill beable to pay roadtax in the new bands because the co2 output of that engine is known or am i still going to get robbed on the extortionate rate for older cars

  3. You might have to pay tax rate on the 2002 engine, rather than the registration plate.  I would have a quick word with dvla before you change the engine, as chances are you might be paying out more tax than you did before

  5. As far as I know you pay by the registration of the car. You would need to inform the DVLA of the new engine number. I would guess that you could ring them and find out.

  6. You must remember to notify the DVLA of the new engine number on the registration book.
