If i set my home theatre system's subwoofer to max volume/bass, will it hurt the sub?

when you drive do you push the gas peddle all the way all the time? probably not,it,s not necesary.i like to keep the sub volume about 1/2 way and position the sub closer or further from a wall to get the effect of moe bass.

you should not have to .. i would look for another way of hooking unit up, and check all wires  if all checks out and all connections are good,and there"s no clipping then go with it ....hope this helps..

They of course wouldn't design the settings so that the product can be damaged from doing so.

Just use common sense and be on the look out for any change in the sound. Otherwise, you should be fine.

You should get a SPL meter from radio shack and adjust the levels so that when the 5 speakers produce 75 db, the subwoofer produces 83-85 db.  This will give you the same volume levels as the production studio expects.

You are free to crank the bass. But you can over-drive things.  If you start hearing a crackling or 'thud' sound during heavy bass scenes, turn things back or you will damage the sub.

It shouldn't damage it....you might get sound that's too boomy or something.
