  1. Usually around $20 per hour with years of experience. Become a Mercedes Benz Mechanic and you will do better than 90% of A&P's.  Our guys in Boca Raton Fl and Ft Lauderdale Exec (hottest aviation market in the USA) with numerous years of experience on are paid $15-20 an hour! Many shops only invoice $55 per hour! A computer IT companies invoice more than that! Honda shops invoice over $70 per hour and MBZ $90 per hour!

I know from talking with my MBZ mechanic who services my cars.  I am in aviation and write the documentation for 135 charter certificates.

  2. I have been working in aviation as a mechanic for over 30-years.  As any job you start at the bottom learning the ropes and gaining experience.  You can count on starting off at minimum wage in most small shops and maybe more if a shop will take you in and training you.  Here where I live the average wage is $20 to 30 per hour, but it is a expensive place to live.

However if you stick with it learn the ropes and apply yourself you can make well over 100K as I do.  Knowledge is everything in aviation and it pays to know more than the next guy.  This rule is in every profession.  However in aviation we mechanic are in it for the love or aircraft and the money is nice so we can buy more toys.

Check out my web site under Mechanic Tool Box for additional information on mechanics.

  3. you would proberly be a millionaire

  4. Study books and lessons are costly then buying tools keeping certification and finding a job. Remember there are good shops to work for and bad shops. As there are good technicians and bad technicians. You will never get rich making your boss's shop money. Same is true for Master Auto technician.

  5. My shop starts off at about 15 dollars an hour. After 3 years you should be up to about 20. Top out pay is about 30 an hour. My shop is non-union and in the south, so we probably get paid less than average. I also work third party maintenance. If you work directly for the airline in a union, there is the huge possibility of a layoff.

  6. Stay away from this job. The pay is terrible and the responsibility is huge. You can kill a plane load of people with one simple mistake and you will be paid less than a janitor with about the same respect. This is part of the reason that we are going through the crisis that were in now with all the canceled flights do to poor maintenance. Its unfortunate but you get what you pay for. If you pay peanuts you get monkeys. You would be far better off to become a flight attendant or a pilot if your willing to take the risk of flying around on under maintained aircraft.

  7. It depends  who you work for. If you are just a employee of either a shop or airline, wages will start around 12 bucks an hour and go up to 24, depending on training qualifications and skills.

But I believe it's not about money, it's about doing what you like. Lawyers make HUGE money, but I won't do that job.

    Cheers
