I am having problems with my junior schedule because i don't have any foreign language in it.

Its too late to change them because that was the only way i could get the rest of my classes.

SO next year if i take french one and french two in my senior year will i still be able to attend a good college? is that the same as "two years" in the same foreign language?

  1. French is a two semester full year class.  You cannot take french 1 and french 2 in the same year.  If you did you would be lost in french 2 since you had not previously completed the french 1 course. It would not count as taking two years of a foreign language.  You could probably change your junior schedule around to move one of those classes to your senior year.  I don't know how it is with your high school but typically 2 years of a foreign language are not required to graduate but many colleges prefer that you have taken two consecutive years of a foreign language.

  2. Yes and No. I know that people have said two semesters, but I don't know what high school they went to, my high school and my daughters high school has 3 semesters. (Fall, Winter, and Spring...duh)

Typically French I is the prerequisite to French II, however, anything is possible if you TRY hard enough and not let negative people tell you something cannot be done.

If you are taking them both in all three semesters. However, I must warn you that taking French I, if you have never taken it before, is going to be quite tricky to master in of itself so therefore if you take one class and then the next period go to French II you are going to be totally lost and you will get behind. You will really have to work hard to master that much in one year. It can be done. Two brother and sister jugglers (true story) only spoke their native language of Russian just 3-1/2 years ago, however they now live in New York pursing their dream and speak better English than you and I and several more put together. So if you put your mind to it you will be able to achieve anything. Might I also suggest that you partner up with someone in class who speaks it and understands it fairly well so that you may converse with that person. The more you speak it the better you will get. Try only having short daily conversations "en francais" every day and you will be a master in one years time. Also make sure you alot time to practice writing it as well on daily basis. When you get good you can go to some french online social groups and meet some new people and practice your french!! Hope this has helped.

Oh and also go to to the internet newpaper sites or go to the book stores/news stands and see if you can get a french periodical/newspaper/magazine.

**"If you study an hour every day there is no reason why you should not be able to read a newspaper with a dictionary after a 12 months of study. Speaking and writing simple texts without errors should be reachable after 18 to 24 months."

Hope this has helped you out,

  3. the college wont consider it as two years of a language because its a two semester class, which takes one year of high school...so no sorry=/

I think you would have to go to a community college for your second year of french then you can transfer, but I'm not entirely sure about that.

  4. You can't take French 1 and 2 simultaneously. But if you are fluent just try taking the exams so you can get "CREDIT" for the classes. If you pass the first, and you don't pass the second then you'll know that you will have to take French 2.

I am kinda fluent in Spanish so I skipped Spanish 2 by taking a test so....
