If i tell a counselor my girlfriends mom smokes weed will she tell the police?

i mentioned to the counselor that my girlfriends mom smokes weed and that she is a terrible person. she's not dangerous or anything just crazy and completely ridiculous. does the counselor have to tell someone that she smokes weed or is it against the confidentiality oath. and please if you are a lawyer or counselor please let me know because i would like to let her mom know she is in no danger of going to jail or anything.

As far as ethics of the profession goes , a counselor cannot or should not disclose things of this nature to anyone. t*t should be kept confidential and the necessary guidance given.

Yeah most counselors have confidentiality agreements but that doesn't mean they can't find ways to break the rules. They could call child protective services anonymously and report your girlfriends mom without giving their name so no one will know it's them. I think it's more important to watch out for your girlfriend than doing this you may put her in a really bad situation so you should probably stay quiet unless her life is in danger.

counselors are bound to confidentiality with their patients unless they hear something illegal... and that is illegal. youre a dumbass cuz most counselors are pretty anti-drug. but nice job. tell your girlfriend to have a nice time with her foster parents...

You are a minor, so yes, if she thinks you are in danger she will probably go to the cops, and if she knows you've been hurt or anything, then she's legally bound to tell.  But don't let that stop you, it sounds like you need some kind of intervention.

Why would you tell her somebody else's business even if its your girlfriend's mom. Your girlfriend has the right to tell the counselor about her mom, not you. The good thing is that your counselor can't tell anyone because of confidentiality if you tell her she is not allowed to tell anyone. But if your counselor seens in any way that your girlfriend could be in danger, then she will tell authorities. Worry about your own problems. Go have someone tell your counselor that your mom is terrible see how that feels.

i don't think they can tell anyone.  like during physicals at the doctor if you say yes to doing drugs or smoking or being a virgin  they cant tell your parents unless you are okay with it.
