Valium (diazepam) is in the benzodiazepan class of drugs, which includes Xanax and others. It's available in 2mg, 5mg, 10mg tablets.

Valium is a combination tranquilizer/muscle relaxant. If you have no tolerance buildup to this medication, it will relax you, then make you drowsy. Whether or not you have a prescription for it has no effect on how the medication acts.
