  1. Yes, but not as much as a program of riding your mountain bike would.  Assuming Taekwondo improves coordination and balance, it would probably still lack in the intense cardio and leg strength you need. I would try to ride 2-3 times a week.

  2. No, there wouldn't be any cross-over benefits between the two sports. Of course any exercise is better than sitting on the sofa watching TV.

  3. Taekwondo is excellent for developing agility, strength, and speed.  In general, all of these are useful attributes for mountain bike riding.

The real question is what are your cycling goals?  If you want to mountain bike recreationally, you are probably good to go.  With even a modest level of conditioning, it is possible to tool around through the woods on a mountain bike.  If you want to acheive a higher level of cycling, you need to get in more cycling to build cling specific muscle and a high level of aerobic endurance.

Cycling specific muscle training is best developed via cycling.  Running, Tawkwondo, swimming, weight lifting, jump roping, etc. are all excellent at developing muscular strength.  They just don't develop the muscles you employ in cycling.

Aerobic endurance can be gained through a variety of exercises.  Swimming, running, and other endurance sports help develop aerobic conditioning.  Due to the need to develop cycling specific muscles, cycling is really the best exercise for developing cycling oriented aerobic endurance.

So, Taekwondo workouts are fine if you have only modest cycling goals.  If you want to shoot for a higher level, you you need adequate time to train on a bicycle to develop your cycling specific muscles and build your aerobic endurance.  As other respondents have suggested, I'd try to get out to ride regularly.  I would suggest riding at least 2 times a week for at least an hour.  Then try to get a 2 or more hour ride at least once a week.  If you want to get into racing, well that's an entirely different matter...

    Hope this helps.
