If i use round up on my lawn?

and it kills the weeds, will it leave behind the dead plants? or will it leave a bare spot. thanks!

I used Round-Up last week.  I applied it directly on the weed leaves and a few hours later they were wilted on the lawn.  The only grass that died was the grass that touched the weed, as Round-Up kills any herbaceous plant it touches.  

I picked up the wilted weeds and threw them away.

If you spray Round-up on your lawn you will kill everything and be left with a bare area. If you're wanting to just kill weeds, then determine what type of lawn you have and what sorts of weeds you have and use a herbicide created to kill those types of weeds.

Pay attention to mixing/spreading ratios and temperature warnings on the product label or booklet. Additionally, you may have both broad and narrow leaf weeds, so you will likely need more than one type of herbicide. As well, you may have to apply more than once or even set up a routine application schedule.

Round-up WILL leave behind the dead plant.  They will not retreat into the ground, they will just die right there.  The existing weeds and grass that you sprayed will just stand there, dead.

Round-up is also a "one time" killer, not a treatment or long-effect spray, so new weeds will return.

On a lawn, I'd recommend something that will kill broadleaf only, and not grass.  24d is a chemical that does that well, you should be able to pick it up in various quantities and mixtures from any hardware/farm supply store.

There are also a lot of "weed and feed" style fertilizers that will promote your grass while holding down common lawn-weeds.  These work great as a cost-efficient treatment plan to have a great looking lawn.
