  1. It is going to depend on your state.  Typically it takes at least 6 months.  You have to go through foster and adopting classes, be fingerprinted, have background checks ran on you and anyone over 16 (varies state to state) living in your house, you have to have a homestudy, you have to prove income and that you can support yourself and the child(ren) without state help, be certified in First Aid/CPR and after all of that your homestudy has to go up before a group that will decide whether or not to approve you.

Once you get approved you can then start looking for a child, keep in mind that the child you are interested in now, maybe placed by the time you are ready.  Once you find a child you are interested in you have to have your homestudy sent to that child's case worker.  Their case worker will then look at all those that are interested in the child and from those they will chose the best match.

Once you are chosen you will most likely only have visitation with the child.  This is to let you and child get to know each other and to see if the placement will work out or not.  It is up to the child's case worker how long visitation will last before the child is then moved into your home and into your custody.

This is not something that is going to be quick and easy but it will be very worth it!

  2. If her parental rights have already been terminated, she could be living with you within a few weeks of you completing the state requirements and the adoption could be final within the year. If her birth parents still have their rights, it could be two or three times as long. It is not a difficult process in most cases, but you will need to contact your local human services agency to see how to get started and what their requirements are.

  3. Depends on your state and the situation of the child. Sounds like your interested in a child from you states child services that may be removed from the home for some reason and needs to be foster to adopt. I would contact them

  4. All adoptions are hard som people get there children right away whil others wait for years. So it all depends.

  5. I am confused by your post.  By your previous posts, I thought you were a teenager?

Soooo........are you a teenager or an adult?

Teens cannot adopt, but what you can do if you want to spend some time with children, is volunteer!  Go read to kids at your local library, or be a "Candy Striper" at a children's hospital, or babysit for a local shelter or church group!

    Good luck to you!

  6. It depends if you go through the state or an adoption agendy.  You are looking for an older child so it is usually not as long of a wait to adopt.

  7. For a child the age of 10 you have many options.  I would get in touch with your local social services, or Luthuran or Catholic social services.  All great places to start.  You could also look on adoptuskids.com

There are many children in that age group that would love to call yours their home!

The longest part is going to be getting qualified.  You will need a homestudy, agencies will help you with that.  It will include backgroud checks, and a case worker spending time with you and asking you lots of questions.  I would guess after the homestudy it wouldn't take long at all before you will a new Mama to your little girl.  Just make sure you line yourself up with a good agency...good agency = faster placement!
