Buy and plant a tree.  They can serve as a natural filter for carbon dioxide, and they produce oxygen, which you and your family might like to breathe. That would probably do a lot more good than sending money to a carbon offset trading company, plus it would look really good in your yard in a few years, whereas buying carbon credits would just leave a big hole in your wallet.
