  1. About 11:30 PM Pacific time.

The Qantas non-stop flight from LAX to Sydney is a 14 1/2 hour flight.

  2. Most flights from the West Coast to Australia leave after 9-00 pm and before midnight.  This gets them to the East coast of Australia between 7-00 am and 10-00 am.  Your time difference is not 12 hours - you are 19 hours behind the east coast (depending on daylight saving at each end).

But after the flight you will be tired, grumpy and not at your mental best.  If you have to perform at 8-00 am get here at least a day earlier.  You may also not have time to get through customs and into the city for any appointment at 8-00 am.

  3. Simple math answers this one. If its 8am in Aus, its 8pm in LAX. A 13 hour flight would mean you need to leave before 7am the day before you wish to arrive in Aus.
