i am going to be in marching and concert band this year with my brother in high school, but i also love to dance and my school offers nothing for dance, so since i hav danced for about 6 years, should i keep dancing at a company near my house or take a free community college class? i still have no idea what i want to go to college for except that i might want to be a person who does makeup for movies, with a minor in dance and be on the dance team or be a fashion designer or something art related, i just want to get really good at dance, should i get more into ballet, jazz, or what i take one class of jazz, tap and ballet a week, i cant do competition dance this year, so what do i do to become the best, i have a top 10 and top 50 studio in my area should i do that and the college class?

  1. Do one day of the college class but don't quit the studio. If the college seems like it has a potential to help you and your passion take it as well. But be sure not the overload yourself.

  2. Community College classes tend to be at the beginner levels, so I doubt that you'd find it to be challenging enough for  you. But, hey, it's free, so you could certainly try. There's actually nothing wrong with taking classes below your own level because every bit helps.

My daughter wound up spreading out her dance training among many different studios in our area by the time she was in high school (including classes in the university dance department) because it was so hard to find enough top classes in ballet, modern and jazz to suit her. Basically, to become the best dancer, you need to be taking at least 12 hours of dance classes a week at your age, increasing to 15 by your senior year - not counting rehearsals. And you need to have teachers who danced professionally, which makes them amongst the best, even if you don't wish to dance professionally yourself.
