If i wanted to keep a video for a long time would it be best to put them on a CD??

  2. CD, DVD, or (external) hard drive. You should organize all your videos and photos that way, and you can keep them infinitely that way.

  3. It may surprise you to learn that DVD and CD media have a limited life-span. This is especially true if you tend to save a few dollars by buying the bargain CD or DVD media at your local office supply store.

    Some put the lifespan of this media at 7-10 years. I myself have experienced media failure in as little as 3 years.

    I believe that CD and DVD media are going to go away as a storage media in the near future. Will your computer have a DVD or CD drive in 10 years? Probably not. Look at where floppy disks and zip disks have gone.

    What should you do? The best methods call for redundantly storing your data on an external hard disk drives. It is very easy to keep carrying this forward, and the amount of data you can store as opposed to DVD media is huge. Make sure you are not relying on a single drive as a backup drive.
