Siblings are considered to be in the same generation.  The generations are parents, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, etc.

Generation is also used to describe people of common times, events, and traits.

any word (ie generation) can be used in different contexts, and mean something different.

Baby boomers are the "generation" that was born following ww2, and kind of up to 1960.  More or less, their parents were part of the war.  There are numerous names for later "groups", and I don't think there is any solid cutoff for each (ie one ends on June 1, 1975).  I would offer examples but I got stuck in genealogy, so I kind of focus on history before me.

In the genealogy context.. it is more who is the same "level" from a point, even though that point is flexible. Example.. you are born in 1980, your mother in 1960, grandpa in 1940. Each is a generation. All the grandchildren would technically be the same generation. That would be "short" generations. MY grandfather was born in the 1830s, my mother in 1909, and me in 1949. LONGGG generations.  My mom was from his 2nd wife, and he had kids in the 1860s.. those kids had children pre 1900.  My grandfather's other grandchildren ARE STILL my first cousins, and we are the same generation (from grandpa).. even though they are at least 50 yrs older than me.

If the context is genealogical, you and sister are the same generation.  I can't tell you about cultural generations, or where "cut off' might be.
