  1. Ethnically your are of German decent but your Nationality is American.

Had you been born in  Germany then your nationality would be German.

  2. You are American PERIOD. There are no Hyphen Americans.

I have Great Grandparents and Grandparents who are Native American, Irish, German, Italian and French. Last time I checked I am still just a plain old American.

  3. I was born in the USA. My Mom was born in The Netherlands. I consider myself to be an American of Dutch heritage. I would consider you an American of German heritage.

  4. You're a German-American.

I think your children can just be considered American though.

  5. Exactly correct.  I am from German blood.  I'm not a German American and neither was my father but my grandparents were both from Germany.  I have no ties to Germany and Germany has no ties to me.  I'm an American.  There's no such thing as a "German American" unless you were born a German citizen and came to America and got an American citizenship.  This is why I say there's very few African Americans, most are just plain black Americans.
