  1. you will definitley lose torque, and you will definitley start forest fires.

  2. Do you meen open through exhaust pipes?

if so my last bike a chop  Yamaha had cut off open exhausts,,the noise was deafening and not road legal but what the ****,,,I rode it a lot,,the only things to be of concern is loss of back preassure on the valves, the noise and legality,,

  3. Firstly, I do not know which `bike you are modifying, but, if you can, get a copy of Phil Irving`s `Tuning for Speed` it has some really good calculations for determining exhaust dimensions that can, I am sure with a little modification, trial and error, be applied to your machine.

It is good basic stuff that will give you an insight into what happens inside an engine, valid still after all these years.

    Phil Irving was a genius.

Exhausts are designed in such a way that the shockwave of the explosion and it`s echo back from the end of the `pipe` control the scavenging of the cylinders. OK , a bit more complicated than that, but you get my gist.

As you try different exhausts, do regular plug chops to get a feel for what is happening inside the combustion chambers if you do not have any access to more sophisticated analytical machinery.

Bear in mind that all tuning runs a risk of failure, so be prepared for a few shocks and upsets.

I have applied his mathematics to everything from a classic Triumph Trident used for racing, not too many `middle plug` problems but it was a bit softly tuned,  to a roadgoing (!) ZXR750 L1 and an Alfa Romeo Giulietta car with reliable success.  30000 road miles in the Giulietta and 4 MOT`s with an empty back box. Oh and a genuine 142bhp at the wheels of that one, from a 2litre twin cam with a few carb. mods, but on a standard road cam, 30 mpg, plus it sounded gorgeous ! The Kwacker sounded like a `soft explosion` as my mate once said...but it went rather well, it really needed a slightly bigger gearbox sprocket, but I never got round to that. Saw 170+ a couple of times on the eternal optimist Kawasaki speedo though.

Er..I did live in the countryside and maybe in a City it might have been a bit different with the road going stuff !

  4. Two-stroke or Four-stroke?.

  5. First off you will loose torque. The gains would be only sounding cool. Power loss is evident as most motorcycle engines require some back pressure as a result of some what restricted mufflers. Change the pipes but keep some back pressure. Also running straight pipes the cops will be keying in on your loud exhaust. tickets are no fun either. gl

  6. Do you mean open pipes as in no silencer or as in no pipes coming off of the motor? If you mean no pipes coming off the motor then your bike will be short lived. Cold air will get into the valves and ruin them. It will sound cool for about five minutes and then you will be dishing out big money to get it fixed.

  7. loses compression + torque. Only thing gained is noise ammount

  8. Firstly the noise, then the bike would lose compression and power, you cold tune it up but then your bike would run hot and cause damage to the engine. you would get improved acceleration until it burnt out.

  9. keep the shafters cool by injecting nutremeo. but i would worry about youre muffler breaking from too much over lodage. also, if you like you're paint job i wouldn't try it. other than that, make sure you're jewels are padded and you're shocks are lubed and ready to go.
