  1. Aborted?  Or just killed yourself as a young person, or killed your father or mother before they had you?

No, that isn't the grandfather paradox.  The grandfather paradox is when you go back and father (or mother) your own mother or father.

  2. LOL.  The "cut-and-paste" queen is at it again. (Jan51061).  Such ridiculous long answers are annoying.

  3. No that would just be a miscairrage... or however you spell it... that looks weird.

  4. No, if you killed yourself before you even existed, that would be known as the incoherent idiot's paradox.

  5. The grandfather paradox is a paradox of time travel, first described by the science fiction writer René Barjavel in his 1943 book "Le Voyageur Imprudent" ("The Imprudent Traveller"). The paradox is this: suppose a man traveled back in time and killed his biological GRANDFATHER (not himself) before the latter met the traveller's grandmother. As a result, one of the traveller's parents (and by extension, the traveller himself) would never have been conceived.

An equivalent paradox is known (in philosophy) as AUTOINFANTICIDE — that is, going back in time and killing oneself as a baby.

A number of possible ways of avoiding the paradox have been proposed, such as the idea that the timeline is fixed and unchangeable, or the idea that the time traveler will end up in a parallel timeline, while the timeline in which the traveler was born continues to exist (science fiction movies always talk about a parallel universe. I think a parallel timeline could mean such things as Hitler and Japan won World War 2; the US was the Communist country and Russia the democracy; etc.). What happens to us is meant to be, and trying to go back in time would not necessarily help the situation, but dramatically alter the future. Would you like to outrun a Tyrannosaurus Rex today?? I wouldn't. That's what time travel could do.  One second changed can alter a million years.

There is a long article about this and why time travel may or may not be possible at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grandfather...

  6. Your travel back in time, and killing yourself before you were born, could be thought of as a "grandfather paradox"; but, in order for one to even consider this, one must believe in "time travel".
