If i were to join the Air Force reserve (at 30 yrs old), would I be able to change to active duty later?

Even though 30 years old is too old to join active duty, but not too old to join the reserves?

Maybe, but doubtful.

Right now, the Air Force is barely even letting Prior Actice duty Air Force members, , who seperated, come back on active duty.

Just 29 in 2007.

So unless something changes, the chances of going to active duty in the AF , from the AF Reserve.

Are very low.

But things can change 3 years from now.

But i wouldn't make plans, based on being able to go active duty from the rerserves.

Although by regulation you could. Current recruting policy does not have any positions for prior service folks coming on for regular Air Force. Trust me, I am a recrutier and I have to turn people away every day. I don't know what the policy will be five years from now, but right now it's not good. Your best bet would be getting into an active position through your reserve unit, but those are extremely hard to get too.

yes as long as your reserve unit signs a letter of release letting you go.  Missions usually dicate how they'll feel so if we're still dealing with the middle east when u decide, they many deny the request.  Bottom line yes you can but your unit has the say so.

Another thing.  Prior service means though you get older while serving, it means you can be older than the age

requirements allow if you were just enlisting from the beginning.  So there's plenty of time no matter what.

BTW, since when is 30 too old for active duty.  Last I heard, they even raised the age limit to 40, at least it was raised in the army.

It's 27 wow.  Everything else I said is on the money with regards to switching and prior service age changes.

Yes once you are in the reseve you can request to go on active duty.The cutoff age i believe is 35 years
