Really it depends on where you go. Some places have really begun asking everyone for IDs when using credit cards, but not so much for Debit Cards. I've signed for things using my own name on my mom's debit card and they haven't even noticed. If you do use a debit card, all you have to do is put in the pin, normally with no questions asked.

Either way, it is still illegal.

Some businesses now want to see some ID when you use a credit card and if you and he do not have the same name, they won't let you use it. Some places may not care as much and not ask for an ID.
