    good luck!

  2. business degree will help....especially when you go to get investors, they will take you more seriously if you have a degree.

And you should also work in a restaurant for a while to learn the business

  3. Business Mgt degree. But while doing the degree, work in the food industry and get into management. Once graduated you will have the book smarts and the hands on experience. Combined, you have your own business.

  4. if you'd like to open your own restaurant then you need culinary experience.

to be a successful business owner, a degree in management will be helpful.

you should start working in restaurants to gain an understanding of the ownership/partnership concept.

  5. Business Management or Hotel and Restaurant Management will do.

  6. Hi Kristen

Before you think about what academic qualifications you need, think about the practical side of things.

Do you have a passion for food?  Is it more important to you to have good food rather than any food?   Would you drive 20 miles extra because a better restaurant was that bit further away?

Think like the X factor show - do you have that spark, that bit of brilliance inside you that will make the difference - and make you a better chef or restauranteur than the next one?

Are you prepared to do a 20 hour shift because that is what is needed?  Or are you strictly a 8 hour's work and then go home person? Do you have what it takes to run your own business?

Think of the practical skills you will need, cooking, waiting, barkeeping, bookkeeping, business administration.   Ok, you can get these from working from others, but some are better learned from college.   Business administration is one of them.  Equally some things might be better learned by doing, like cooking.   But even then, a foundation course in cooking at college followed by an apprenticeship might be the way forward.  Maybe you can get a college course that follows several routes, business administration and cooking maybe?

What sort of restaurant are you thinking of?  MacDonalds or one with a Michelin star?   If you want a Michelin star then you maybe you need to think of doing an apprenticeship with a great chef?  You will also need to learn about food hygiene and getting local government permits, but worry about those bits later!

Plan your work experience, get experience of working for different restaurant businesses and in different aspects of those businesses.
