In Canada, recent immigrants (<10 years landed) have a level of unemployment anywhere from 2 to three times the national average. In some particular communities over 2/3rds of households are receiving social benefits and are wholly dependent on welfare. The problem seems to be long lasting in that children of certain groups are following similar patterns of non-assimilation and unemployment. What can be done to remedy this dilemma? More money? Special programs? Deportation? What say you?

  1. I say you should run against Obama and McCain...you got my vote.

  2. Deportation.

Countries that do not want to be responsible for what they have created are actively encouraging their children to leave that country and go to a country that is responsible for their conduct. When poorly educated immigrants arrive with bogus degrees, they wind up on welfare, and the Canadian Government, as well as many of the major governments in the Industrialized countries are doing the same thing with the same results.

If they come and take welfare.. very, very clearly, they will be better off in their home country. Deport them.

  3. Actually immigration tends to send out income to family back home, through money transfers much of the wealth the workers bring in is not spent locally at all.

  4. I'd be very careful about making such broad assumptions lest you be perceived as an intolerant bigot.

My parents were immigrants and contributed to the Canadian economy. The vast majority of people who live on our street are immigrants and they all seem to work. Many new immigrants run businesses and so actually increase employment in the area.

You stated, "In some particular communities over 2/3rds of households are receiving social benefits and are wholly dependent on welfare. The problem seems to be long lasting in that children of certain groups are following similar patterns of non-assimilation and unemployment." Can you cite your sources?
