Except that that's not how they said it worked - and CFC concentration in the atmosphere is down precipitously since the ban - yet the ozone hole is larger.

  1. I jumped out of a moving vehicle as a kid.   Just because I did that 20 years ago doesn't mean I will ever do it again.

  2. Absolutely not.  This question doesn't even make sense.  There are other things that attack the ozone layer, CFCs were just one of the more potent ones.  When the ozone hole is completely gone, then we can re-assess CFCs.

Why do you doubt every environmental regulation, even ones universally accepted as wise planning?

  3. Failed chemistry, hu?

  4. no... because if the whole is no bigger, then it means stopping to use CFCs helped to stop our ozone problems. I think the whole in the ozone is unfixable... we just don't want to make it any worse.

If you stop smoking and after 2 years you still have lung cancer, does that mean you can start smoking again? no

  5. It's been proven that the CFC's didn't cause the hole in the ozone layer.

Most recent scientific data shows that the opening and closing of the hole is completely natural.

But why bother using CFC's again.  We've found more expensive alternatives haven't we?

Reminds me of the DDT scam.  Its ban has caused the death of millions in Africa, with the intent of saving a few birds.  Then when they find out it didn't cause any problems to birds they still ban it.  Bans are like taxes, once in place they're never removed.
