If in the event the UK became a republic...?

Would that mean that the UK would cease to exist and all the countries would just become independant and not as one big supercountry/empire?

  1. Well it obviously wouldn't be called the UK any more.

and the national anthem would have to be changed to one that mentioned the country instead of just one person.

Perhaps it would just be called Britain

  2. No- not really.

You also forgot your history- Britain was a Republic under Cromwell for 3 years prior to the Glorious Restoration, and was extremelt unpopular.

Upon the return of good King Charles II to avenge his father's death, Britain was jubilant and hanged, drew and quartered the b******s that overthrew our Sovereign.

Independence is a subjective issue. Define it- financial, economic, political?

  3. An interesting question with some odd connotations .. firstly the UK is just that a United Kingdom so it couldn't become a republic as such .. England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, yes separate entities so they could be republics (but I seriously doubt it)

So in answer to your question NO, it couldn't/wouldn't dissolve into a disjointed entity

  4. The British Empire is not what it used to be.And no one would make the UK a republic.Royalty has always been(and will always be) a very important thing
