Good question.  If one doesn't have any attachment to places that are east or west of where you live, I suspect that one would use simply "the east" or "the west" to describe the region. But if one does have such an attachment, one might well say "back east" or "back west" and "out east" or "out west."

Then

East would be the Right and West would be on your left.

For Example:

California is West on the Map and the Carolina will be East on the map

Florida= South and  New York= North
