  1. because not many people would buy a car that couldn't  go over 65 --- supply and demand -- people want fast cars ---

  2. for passing and emergencies, (75 mph on some interstates).

  3. well lets start with the ever growing oppurtunities to race legally. Other then that i cant think of a good reason. all i know is car racing and need for speed did come about from people who would customize and soup up their cars and trucks to smuggle goods and outrun the police such as the days of moonshine

  4. In order accelerate and to power a car for the variety of its intended uses, it needs an engine capable of powering at a faster maximum speed than it normally needs to go.  For example, a six passenger car with six passengers needs more power to accelerate to a given speed in a certain time than the same car with only the driver.

There are three main forces a car engine needs to work against: friction, wind resistance and inertia. At a constant speed, an engine only needs to overcome friction and wind resistance (which is really only another form of friction) , but the power needed to accelerate is much greater, thus cars are built with very powerful engines. That power can also be used to push the car at speeds faster than either safe or necessary.

  5. how would the cops make money if no one could speed?

  6. It's not illegal to go over 65, some interstates have speed limits of 70 but I think they make them like that because they can't just make the car stop at a certain speed. Sounds possible but don't you think it's possible to make them run on something besides gas? It was an economic opportunity from the start.  Also it probably gives a lot of bored cops entertainment.

  7. If i have to explain it, you'll never understand.

if you need a better answer: because it's not how fast you go, it's how you go fast.

  8. interesting question

  9. not all cars are regulated at your local speed limit, nor are they made for staying in your state.

oklahoma has an 80 mph speed limit, arizona has a 75 mph speed limit,

the audabon has a limit in excess of 120 miles per hour.
