If it melts, Will the Arctic Sea become another body of polluted water like the Great Lakes have?

I believe many countries are already revving up to rush in an exploit the area and the ecological consequences just don't seem to be anyone's concern.

The Russians are rushing up there in international waters trying to claim it as their own.  The Great Lakes have become much cleaner in recent years as technological advances and greater regulation has helped.  When it is not your back yard, you tend to not care as much about pollution.  Frankly, the Russians are more concerned with money and wouldn't be nearly as careful as Westerners.
