I mean, if there's snow will they stop running the trains? Can I still travel on them? Will the snow interfere with the tracks or the travel time and actual train travel?

Thanks!

  1. Yes the trains will still run,as long as the snow is under 3 feet.

  2. you should be fine....it takes quite a bit of snow to cancel a train...snow doesn't bother trains much.

  3. it should still run..i live in a town with an Amtrack station...and it runs all year long!

  4. Yes they will run.  They may be delayed.

  5. Yes. The only thing that really puts a dent into rail travel is ICE storms.

  6. We frequently travel by train between Los Angeles and Albuquerque and when there is a lot of snow, the train will move a lot more slowly and will delay your arrival by several hours.

I have heard of major delays because they have held trains during snows (especially on the Chief coming from Kansas) but they never really call them cancellations.

You will still be able to travel but make sure that you have a good book or two and if there is any chance of delay, try to get a cabin reserved so that you will have a bed and some privacy. We love traveling by train and I think that everyone should try it a few times because it is never the same twice.
