if its not a recession?

isnt funny how we hear from some quarters how this is the worst situation the USA has been in in 30 years or since the great depression, but yet we are still hearing debate from other quarters whether we are "headed" towards a recession maybe? lol .

ok, I will bite, if we are not in a recession, then why is it so many things are worst ever or worst in 30 years or worst since great depression? Please when you answer dont insult our intelligence by quoting unemployment rates or the stock market as proof of our healthy economy. For I see your unemployment and stocks and I raise you with high gas prices, inflation, record budget deficits, record trade deficits, declining real wages, high health care costs, loss of 15%of manufacturing, record foreclosures, rising food prices, record illegal alien influx, record high school drop outs, cities and local govts cutting services due to diminishing tax base etc...

Something is happening and its not good.

  1. There is a specific defintion for a recession, and we dont meet that definition.

A decline in the GDP for 2 or more consecutive quarters.

ADD:  Just curious.  Do you believe things are bad because of what you see on the news or because of your actual experience?  I feel the gas prices and everything related to gas, but personally, everything else is fine.

ADD:  No. You misunderstand my point.  The media has an agenda, whether left wing right wing or mainstream.  They feed us news with a spin and we eat it up as gospel truth because that is really all we have to rely on, other than our own actual experience.  The most honesdt test of what is going on is what you can see with your own eyes, or what your own experience is.  Not relying on someone with an agenda to tell you what is really going on.

Of course I care about other people.  Please quit jumping to conclusions that I dont because I am a republican (another left wing media myth.)

  2. what is it called?

Answer: the 400 pound gorilla in the room.

It's a problem that no one seems to care about. Funny huh.

  3. A republican government

  4. Well we had a new record for the national debt, every single year since 1960/

We have had a new record for the trade deficit every single year since 1991.

But we have also had a new record for exports every year since 2001.

And if you look at State and City spending, you will see, that even as they say they are cutting, thier budgets keep increasing every single year, more than the inflation rate.

The economy is in alot better shape than it was at the end of the 1970's.

The US economy is still in better shape than most of Europe.

The US economy is not independent of the rest of the world.

We cannot go back to the decades after WW ll, when most of the manufactiuring capacity in the world, was in the US, because Europes and Asias manufacturing capacity was destroyed in the war.

And why do so many Americans think, that the US somehow controls world oil prices ? Thus gasoline prices ?

Do you think your intitled to buy oil from other countries, at the price you want to pay and not what they are selling it for ?

  5. "...financial markets are much too complicated for the average person to understand in any depth, and far too complicated for the average politician to be trusted to regulate."

  6. Excellent deduction!  I've been saying the same thing, but not nearly as well as your evaluation.  I'm no economist, but I was born during the "great depression" and, although my Dad was working through it, we supported many, many relatives.  Our house was a veritable revolving door, with families moving in and out.  The current  situation in the U.S. is different, but almost as bad, and could get a lot worse unless we take steps to stop gouging the middle-class, regain control of our youth, stop illegal immigration that is draining our public services, punish corporations who take our jobs to foreign countries, take away tax breaks from the rich, and get oilmen OUT of the Oval Office.  I am so sick of hearing how they are enjoying "record profits", with which they are not building new refineries.  And, why do people keep expecting alternative fuel when oil is so delicious for those with a financial interest.  I salute your question...and your comments and I agree with you!
