They'd be kicked out of the Olympics. Why the double standard?

  1. Well the Spanish are saying that they did it out of respect and didn't understand the racial undertones. One player said they were forced to do it and even though he felt uncomfortable he did it anyway. I agree. If the US did that they would be disqualified and thrown under the bus.

The Spainish team can play dumb and act like they didn't know it was offensive, but it's 2008...i know some things are cultural, but wrong is wrong...just apologize and stop playing innocent victim.

  2. i agree..thanks for bringing it up...I think we (USA) is seen different specially in Asia and middle east...They shold've eliminated the Spain Basketball team to say the least..

  3. What happened when 2 American runners raised their fists in a Black Panther Salute during a medal ceremony?

  4. Most likely, but we have too much class, unlike those fuked up Spain.

  5. i read an article about it and they said older generation spanish are not very culture sensitive. they dont understand why the chinese would take offense. now in america we are really sensitive about these kind of things. so sensitive that if you say one thing offhandedly, you will doubtlessly be sued let alone pose for a picture that way. the spanish team managers told their team to and the team didnt really understand why they should or that it could be offensive. well now they certainly know and they are in a heap of trouble with china.

  6. I don't think i've ever heard of an athlete being kicked out of the games by the IOC for making racists remarks or gestures...and you can bet it has happened!  So if there is no precedent for kicking out a team or individual for this then you can't expect them to start doing it now.  If the US team did it the same thing would happen as it did to Spain. The press would be all over them, the US would issue an apology and everyone would get on with the games.

  7. Nothing.

    It's not a big deal.

  8. I don't think the team would be kicked out.  Booed like the Spanish, yes.  Kicked out, no.
