We bother to look good for ourselves.  We naturally preen our stuff.  Much, much more than men.

Yes, I would.  I have always loved to do the "girly" thing, that is; make up, blingy clothes, trying different hair styles and this was long before we even had a TV in our house. ('50's).  That answered, I would also like to state that the true female ideal exists in each individual woman's mind, heart and soul, which is at the core of her very being. This is how each woman decides who she is and what she hopes to become.  Looking good is in the eyes of each woman when they think about who they are and where they are going.....if they CHOOSE to dress up, down, or not at all, so?  It is this freedom to make up or not make up that liberates a woman.  Looking good for others can also be a woman's or a man's choice.

women look good without trying, which is why I find makeup to be retarded.  It's men who need to get their acts together, shave off all their ape hair and pluck their eyebrows.

Well, may I ask, what would it take for men to be a bit more concerned about how they look.  I am motivated to dress nicely, be clean and respect my body because it makes me feel better and is an honor to myself and those I love.

Unfortunately for a lot of women, the only motivation they need to look good is a woman who looks better than how they perceive themselves.  Maybe it's broken down into the whole Alpha Female thing.  The most attractive lady gets the mate!  Now defining "looking good" is a whole different monster.  Fake tans with bleach blonde hair doesn't look good, but the ideal tells us it does.
