Question:

If it would mean gas prices went down to $1.00 a gallon in America?

Would you be willing to allow the American Government to drill for oil in Alaska?

BTW they are already using the oil wells in Alaska, that oil is being sold to Japan.

Also there is enough oil in those wells to support America for the next 200 years including population growth. This would definitely give us enough time to come up with an alternate fuel source.

I was told that the only reason they have yet to do this is because of environmental reasons.

  1. Mr. Lindsey  is very good speaker. I want to belive it.

Acouding to "CRS Report forCongress 2005"

As a reaction to oil price and supply concerns, questions about the export of crude oil produced on Alaska’s North Slope are often directed at Members of Congress. The export of this oil had been prohibited by the 1973 law allowing the construction of the pipeline system now transporting oil to the ice-free, southern Alaska port of Valdez. But following a period of depressed oil prices, legislation was enacted in 1995 permitting export. Relatively small amounts — never more than 7% — of Alaskan crude were sold to Korea, Japan, China, and some other countries. These exports stopped by 2000.Currently, no crude is exported from the West Coast.

I hope we can use alternative enagy and we don't need to think about crude oil anymore.

  2. yes but not sure that would happen it seems coporate greed is biggest problem

  3. well, I definitely agree with those first two.

and no. they could GIVE gas away and I still wouldn't approve of sacrificing more pristine wilderness for what is essentially a dead fuel. we should already be off of oil to begin with.

Make it that cheap and not only would people forget all about alternative fuels and be locked on oil for god knows how long, but the use of gas would more than 10 fold and then our environment would pretty much be doomed.

and also, there's not enough oil on the whole PLANET to keep going another 200 years, let alone in alaska. They've estimated that at best numbers we might get 6 months of oil tops, maybe less

  4. The Arctic National Wildlife Reserve reputedly has enough oil underneath it to satisfy the US for approximately 12 months at current levels of demand.

The Reserve is EPA protected but, if oil supply lines to the US were threatened, no doubt Congress woud overturn any obstructive legislation to let Big Oil drill there, in a heartbeat.

And yes, if Big Oil drills, another fragile ecosystem would likely be destroyed - all for 12 months grace for people to get fatter in their gas guzzling cars.

If oil keeps rising in price, and there is an interruption to normal US supply (ie. Canada and Mexico see the light), the day drilling starts in ANWR may well be the tipping point at which the concept of conservation and environmental protection sweeps through a majority of America and Europe, though I doubt it.

If that is what it takes, I say Bring it on!

  5. What do you mean the ONLY reason is the environment? The environment is a pretty big deal.

  6. Drill away!!! The war that's caused over oil will destroy the planet, not just Alaska.

  7. The issue is not drilling in Alaska, they have been doing that for years. The issue is drilling in ANWR, the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve.

And no it's not worth it at all. First off there is no where near 200 years worth of oil there.

Second even if there were no spills or accidents etc. Our environment couldn't handle the burning and consumption of that much oil. The leading cause of global warming is carbon based fuel emissions. Just because there may be more oil out there for us to use doesn't mean we should use it!

The problem isn't oil or even energy. It's too many d**n people on the planet.

  8. Drilling in ANWR represents really no risk.   We're talking rigs, not refineries - it's like putting cellphone towers up, seriously the moose won't even notice.    It would not "destroy a refuge" - that's utter nonsense.

But Dana's right about one thing, it's not a lot of oil - gasoline prices might come down by 20 cents/gallon for a while.

  9. Well for one thing: STOP SELLING IT TO JAPAN!

And no I don't want to drill on Alaska. There are enough problems there already. (Think of the Exxon "accident")

  10. I know this isn't what you're saying (I think), but I agree with the person who said the environment is not some kind of luxury imposed on everyone by the Communists and benefiting only a few people.  I too get tired of hearing that.

  11. Our government is benefiting from the high prices too. That is why they won't drill in Alaska. Russia has more than enough of oil and is offering it to us for a very low price, about $50 a barrel, but the US won't buy it that cheap. So when you see the prices go up don't just say that those countries hate us and are rising their prices, our government is also letting them do it. There are many reasons why we don't have to buy oil from them especially at today's high price, but instead we buy more and more. Our government does not give a sh*t about us.

  12. why don't we just use alternative fuels? then gas prices wouldn't be a concern

  13. if done properly oil drilling should have little effect on the environment so why not drill in Alaska? I for one could use the price of gas going down (and everything else too since gas prices affect shipping prices)

  14. I so agree to drillin in America to get our own oil. yes the enviroment is important but if its going to benifit us and leave us less dependant on foriegn nations that can pretty much pick their prices to sell to us then LETS START NOW.  Great point im totally with you on this

  15. Firstly, it would not cause gas prices to decrease to $1/gallon or anywhere near that.  Maybe a few cents.

Secondly, if it did, no I would not support drilling for oil in Alaska.  We don't need gas prices to decrease to such ludicrous levels when

    a) Global warming is an ever-increasing problem caused by fossil fuel consumption

    b) Oil is a limited resource which we need to conserve, not encourage more consumption.

Thirdly, you're talking about the Arctic National Widlife Refuge (ANWR).  Based on the current oil consumption rate in the US and estimated oil reserves in ANWR, they would provide 1 year's worth of oil.  I don't support destroying a wildlife refuge just for one year's worth of oil.

  16. I think petrol should be $10 a gallon. Or even better make it illegal. Leave Alaska alone.

  17. There is no connection between drilling in Alaska and your $1.00 conclusion.  You said it yourself.  Oil drilled there is sold over in Japan.  The fact is that the oil companies own the product they drill.  And, the oil companies sell it where ever they d**n well please.  Oil is a world commodity.  So, the reserves here feed the entire worlds hunger for oil.

You might see about a 25 cent decline in the price per gallon. BUT, by the time we could get that oil out of there, the price increase will be so far above $4.00 we won't be laughing.  The environment is no small thing.  We must use our talents on green alternatives.

  18. It will be a very long time before we run out of oil & gas. The earth has been recycleing the plant fossils for millions of years ,as that is where our present supply came from. All the oil comes from plants. There is olive oil ,and peanut oil and many others. The oil does not come from the animals,as the animal fat still came from plants.

  19. NOT A CHANCE

  20. No the wild life like the Polar Bears that live in Alaska in the area are hurting there homes...

Polar Bears are becoming existent .... Our Government is lieing to us... And oil companies would never drop the price that low they want to make 200% profit like they been doing..

  21. I say drill Alaska, and worry about something else besides oil and the dang environment.
